The YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Director of Development to join our team. This key leadership role will play a critical part in increasing donor support and serving as an ambassador for our organization across our service area.

As a Senior Director of Development, you will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and stewarding major donors to increase overall retention and giving levels. You will also lead annual appeal campaigns at the Center level and grow the pipeline for major gifts as we prepare for a multi-million dollar capital campaign.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a personal portfolio of annual and major gift prospects
  • Develop and implement a written donor strategy and relationship record of all interactions
  • Communicate through face-to-face cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship meetings
  • Develop solicitation strategies for donors/prospects in support of the organization's annual fund, planned giving, and growth campaigns
  • Support the fundraising efforts of the Executive Directors at the Center level and Chief Development Officer in securing new and renewed gifts

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience plus a minimum of 3-5 years (direct or equivalent) experience managing high-level donor relationships with demonstrated success in closing gifts of $10,000 and above
  • Ability to conceive, plan, and execute a major gifts program, including annual giving, special events, and special projects/campaigns
  • Willingness to be hands-on in a role that is demanding and requires a high level of energy and professionalism

Working Conditions:

  • Is subject to frequent interruptions
  • Will be in contact with all levels of staff, board members, guests, vendors, business associates, applicants, and visitors
  • Must be able to work beyond normal working hours in order to serve the needs of internal customers, weekends and holidays as needed for early morning meetings, extended weekday meetings/trainings, or weekend trainings/meetings

Physical Requirements:

  • May be required to walk, stand, kneel, and stoop
  • Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
  • Must be able to perform the duties of direct reports
