Position Overview

Role: Family Services Specialist III - H14C

Employment Type: Full-Time

Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Compensation: $44, with Full State Employee Benefits

Note: Occasional travel is required. A valid driver's license and appropriate car insurance are mandatory.


Essential Qualifications:

To qualify for the Family Services Specialist III position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Possess a Master's degree.
  • OR hold a bachelor's degree accompanied by one year of relevant professional social work experience.
  • OR have an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one additional year of professional social work experience for each year of the bachelor's degree.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Deliver personalized vocational guidance through the assessment of participants' interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality traits for educational and vocational planning.
  • Conduct comprehensive interviews with participants to evaluate their employment and training status, provide essential program information, and develop initial Career Plans.
  • Engage regularly with participants through various communication methods, including office visits, phone calls, remote meetings, and home visits, to update Career Plans and schedules, offer career pathway coaching, and facilitate necessary referrals.
  • Address any non-compliance with program requirements through direct meetings with participants.
  • Maintain accurate physical and digital records of participants, monitoring progress and compliance with required work participation hours.
  • Act as a liaison between TANF and other relevant agencies to coordinate activities.
  • Provide ongoing support to participants who have secured employment to ensure job success and retention.

  • Demonstrate experience in identifying the needs of individuals and providing coaching or mentoring to enhance their skills, particularly in preparation for securing suitable employment.
  • Exhibit professionalism and tact due to the sensitive nature of the role.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Handle challenging situations with respect and courtesy.
  • Work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Make sound, unbiased decisions and recommendations.
  • Exhibit efficient time management skills and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and committees as required.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of TANF guidelines at all times.
