We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Admissions Counselor to join our team at the VCUarts Office of Admissions. As an Admissions Counselor, you will play a critical role in recruiting and counseling prospective undergraduate students and their families, as well as coordinating and executing a full travel schedule to support the strategic enrollment goals and priorities of the school and university.
Key Responsibilities- Recruitment: Actively recruit and counsel prospective undergraduate students and parents from a diverse background by attending national portfolio days, college fairs, visiting high schools and community colleges, and other recruitment events as assigned.
- Establish and Maintain Relationships: Establish and maintain professional relationships with teachers, high school counselors, and other academic professionals.
- Provide Information and Feedback: Schedule visits with high schools and community colleges, providing current information about VCUarts programs, the admissions process, including portfolio and audition guidelines, and answer general questions.
- Review Portfolios and Provide Feedback: Review prospective students' portfolios and provide them with feedback to improve their artwork and prepare successful applications to VCUarts.
- Attend On-Campus Events: Attend on-campus prospective and admitted student events.
- Lead Information Sessions: Lead on-campus, off-campus, and virtual information sessions for prospective students and their families.
- Respond to Prospective Students: Respond to prospective VCUarts students, applicants, and their parents through a high volume of emails and phone calls in a timely, respectful, and professional manner.
- Maintain Accurate Records: Establish and maintain accurate records for prospective students, including entering comments and contact information in the CRM.
- Submit Travel-Related Documents: Submit travel-related pre-approval and reconciliation paperwork in a timely manner.
- Assist with Competitor Research: Assist with competitor research and higher education trends.
- Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree, BFA, or significant coursework in art and design preferred.
- Experience: Experience energetically and enthusiastically discussing academic programs and visual arts with potential students.
- Customer Service Skills: Exceptional customer service skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, complex work environment.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to prioritize work, creatively solve problems independently, and use available resources, attend to details, and meet schedule and deadlines.
- Experience in Admissions: Minimum of one year working in a college or university admissions or recruitment setting and/or experience working in an art and/or design.
- Administrative Skills: Strong administrative skills and experience working with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Valid Driver's License: Must hold a valid driver's license and be able to travel overnight for up to one week.
- Higher Education Experience: Experience in higher education, admissions, or recruitment experience.
- Knowledge of VCUarts Programs: Knowledge of VCUarts programs or prior VCUarts student.
- Customer Service and Public Speaking Experience: Previous customer service and public speaking experience.
- Experience with CRM and Other Software: Experience with Slideroom, Slate, and Banner.
