Job Summary: The Roanoke County School Board is seeking a Part-Time Non-CDL Driver to operate a county vehicle according to a set daily schedule. The ideal candidate will ensure the vehicle is in good operating condition, pick up and drop off students as per the schedule, and maintain order and security in the vehicle.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner to minimize the risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life.
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks to ensure the vehicle is in good condition.
  • Clean the vehicle and ensure it is safely and securely stored.
  • Advise the garage of any requirements for maintenance or repairs.
  • Maintain schedules and maintain order on the vehicle.
  • Pick up and deliver students as per a set schedule.
  • Ensure students are aware of rules and responsibilities as passengers.
  • Maintain order and discipline on the vehicle.
  • Make note of any behavioral or disciplinary problems.
  • Practice confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain an attitude of mutual respect and courtesy.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • React positively to constructive criticism and suggestions.
  • Demonstrate initiative and motivation.
  • Work independently or collaboratively with others in a wide variety of circumstances.
  • Establish professional relationships and communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrate good safety habits and response to emergency situations.

  • Possess strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Requirements:

  • A valid Virginia Driver's License.
  • A Criminal Records Check will be required.
  • A High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • A valid Driver's License for 5 years.
  • Personal or professional experience with basic childcare.
  • Ability to comply with a background check as required.
  • Good verbal communication skills and visual ability to observe children.
  • Ability to fulfill responsibilities under pressure, including during emergencies.
