Job Summary:

The Roanoke County Public Schools is seeking a Part-Time Non-CDL Driver to join their team. As a Non-CDL Driver, you will be responsible for safely operating a county vehicle according to a set daily schedule. This position is part-time, 188 days, 5 hours/day, eligible for benefits. The ideal candidate will have a valid Virginia Driver's License and a high school diploma or GED equivalent. The Non-CDL Driver will be responsible for ensuring the vehicle is in good operating condition, picking up and dropping off students as per the schedule, maintaining order and security in the vehicle, and obeying all laws, regulations, and rules of conduct. The successful candidate will have good verbal communication skills, visual ability to observe children, and the ability to fulfill responsibilities under pressure, including during emergencies.

Responsibilities:

* Operate the vehicle in a safe and effective manner to minimize the risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life
* Perform daily safety and maintenance checks
* Clean the vehicle
* Ensure the vehicle is safely and securely stored
* Advise the garage of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
* Maintain schedules and maintain order on the vehicle
* Pick up and deliver students as per a set schedule
* Ensure students are aware of rules and responsibilities as passengers
* Maintain order and discipline on the vehicle
* Make note of any behavioral or disciplinary problem
* Practice confidentiality at all times
* Maintain an attitude of mutual respect and courtesy
* Communicate effectively orally and in writing
* React positively to constructive criticism and suggestions
* Demonstrate initiative and motivation
* Work independently or collaboratively with others in a wide variety of circumstances
* Establish professional relationships and communicate effectively
* Demonstrate good safety habits and response to emergency situations
* Exercise sound judgment in decision making
* Prepare and present clear and concise correspondence, complex reports, and policy recommendations

* Perform multiple, highly complex technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions
* Possess strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office

Requirements:

* Valid Virginia Driver's License
* High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
* Personal or professional experience with basic childcare
* Ability to comply with a background check as required
* Good verbal communication skills and visual ability to observe children
* Ability to fulfill responsibilities under pressure, including during emergencies

* Assist students weighing up to 150 pounds in exiting the bus in an emergency situation
* Bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, reach overhead, and drive a vehicle
