Job Description

This role involves supporting various military, aerospace, and space level microelectronics and optoelectronic programs as a Project Engineer at OSI Optoelectronics. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and proposing package design/selection, defining silicon chip attach methods, suggesting electro-optical test parameters, developing assembly sequence/methods process travelers, recommending material selection, and other specific component requirements for program success.
  • Reviewing all aspects of assigned programs for schedule compliance, risk mitigation, and program build/delivery recovery in case of unforeseen delays.
  • Providing program status updates to sales teams and communicating with customers on Hi-Rel Programs, which may involve weekly or daily interactions.
  • Collaborating with Test Engineering, Quality Engineering, Device Engineering, Document Control, Process Engineering, Planning, and Purchasing to lead efforts requiring involvement, ensuring successful documentation/drawing submittals, material procurement, silicon wafer starts, unique specification/procedure generation, project milestone timelines, assembly travelers, and supplier guidance.
  • Offering sustaining engineering support to assigned programs.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Mechanical/Electrical Engineering preferred, with hands-on experience considered in lieu of formal advanced education.
  • Minimum 3 years of Product or Project Engineering experience in semiconductor product manufacturing, working directly with line manufacturing, coordinating development efforts, documentation, process activities, customer communication, problem-solving, project status updates, and reliability reports.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as die attach, wirebond, die shear, fine and gross leak testing, wirebond pull, hermetic sealing (TO-can and other custom configurations), projection weld, seam seal, laser weld, DAP Sealing (specific for inert gas eutectic component or window attach), soldering (J-Std level knowledge).
  • Technical expertise in microelectronics/photonics, primarily with silicon, InGaAs diode, and GaAs technology.
  • Knowledge of military standards.
  • Mechanical design experience with AutoCAD, Solid Works, etc., and ability to create custom package, substrate, window cap configurations.
