Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled CNC Machinist to join our team at James Avery. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CAD/CAM and CNC machining, with experience in developing fixturing and tooling for small parts.

The CNC Machinist will be responsible for creating 3D CAD models, generating toolpaths using CAM software, and machining parts on various CNC equipment. They will work closely with our team to build prototypes and small batches, and will be expected to take initiative and complete projects with minimal supervision.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to read measurement equipment such as micrometer, caliper, and height gauges.
  • Operate typical machine shop equipment including mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, and saws.
  • Create 3D CAD models, use CAM software to generate toolpaths, and CNC machine parts.
  • Work with minimal supervision and limited detailed drawings or blueprints.
  • Take initiative and complete projects from CAD to part, including inspection, with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Fluency in CAD/CAM appropriate for the development of fixturing and/or tooling.
  • 5 years of CAD experience in developing machined components.
  • 5 years of experience in CNC machining process development working with 3-Axis, 3+2 Axis, 5-axis milling, and CNC Lathe.
  • Experience in hands-on fabrication for tooling assembly.
  • Understanding of key metrics and parameters associated with the design of manufacturing processes for machined components.
  • Demonstrated technical depth in the analysis of, and development of solutions for the challenges in the manufacturing process.
  • Experience with creating the support and documentation of machine process and validations.
  • Good overall computer skills and intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited technical institution with an Associate degree in machining technology.
  • CAD experience in developing machined components preferably in a prototype and/or small batch environment.
  • Expertise in Fusion360 CAM Software.
  • Expertise in Solidworks CAD Software.
  • Experience in Solidworks PDM software.
  • Experience in Plastic Injection Molding.
  • EDM programming and operation experience.
