Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Director to lead our Clinical Pathology team at IHC Health Services, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the clinical pathology services across our system, ensuring the highest quality care and experiences for our patients, clinical teams, and physicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Medical Direction: Provide medical direction and oversight for all clinical pathology services, emphasizing safety, quality assurance, consumer and patient experience, and provider engagement.
  • Conformance with Policies: Ensure medical direction is provided in conformance with applicable IHC Health Services, Inc. policies and procedures, as well as applicable standards of The Joint Commission, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, and other relevant regulations.
  • Records Management: Maintain accurate and complete administrative records, ensuring compliance with all relevant record-keeping and recording requirements.
  • Training and Development: Assist in the training of IHC Health Services, Inc. personnel, providing in-service education and training as needed.
  • Policy Development: Lead the development of standardization for Clinical Pathology, ensuring compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws and relevant policies.
  • Quality of Care Utilization: Ensure regular utilization and quality of care studies are performed in accordance with IHC Health Services, Inc. policy and accreditation standards.
  • Clinical Pathology Services Coverage: Direct physician leadership to provide medical support for Clinical Pathology, ensuring at least one physician is available to meet the needs of IHC Health Services, Inc.
  • Cooperation and Coordination: Cooperate closely with other IHC Health Services, Inc. departments and coordinate with outside agencies as necessary.
  • Equipment and Supplies: Determine the need for necessary equipment and supplies, submitting requisitions to IHC Health Services, Inc. administration for processing.
  • Rules and Regulations: Represent and warrant to IHC Health Services, Inc. that Clinical Pathology services will be provided in adherence to principles of professional ethics and IHC Health Services, Inc. rules and regulations.
  • Meetings and Engagement: Attend various meetings to provide clinical direction to Clinical Pathology staff, maintaining a professional demeanor and collegial relationship with PALM Services, support staff, patients, and other members of the healthcare community.
Requirements
  • M.D. or D.O. education from an accredited institution, with degree verification required.
  • Board certification in a relevant Clinical Pathology medical specialty and active Utah Medical Licensure, or in process of obtaining licensure.
  • Basic Life Support for healthcare workers.
  • Three (3) years of successful medical leadership experience.
  • Extensive medical practice experience and excellent leadership skills.
  • Sound understanding of modern healthcare economics and knowledge of financial principles.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Fundamentals of Extraordinary Care: Safety, Quality, Patient Experience, Equity, Access, and Stewardship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Deep understanding of Pathology and Lab Medicine and experience working in a top-performing health system.
  • Extensive experience in driving best practice development and adoption.
  • Leadership experience in an integrated health system.
  • Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement.
  • Data-driven decision making.
  • Experience in population health/proactive care.
  • Current academic appointment or eligible.
