Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Emergency Management Coordinator to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our emergency management team, you will be responsible for assisting with preparedness, response, and recovery efforts in the event of planned and unplanned incidents that impact our operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with various departments to develop and implement emergency procedures, including the development of the Red Book and Emergency Operations Procedures.
  • Participate in emergency response efforts for unplanned incidents, including the facilitation of recovery efforts to return to normal operations.
  • Effectively incorporate after-action review findings to revise and improve plans.
  • Maintain communication readiness for internal and external operations.
  • Provide effective coordination of institutional emergency management projects and response efforts.
  • Manage social media accounts and be proficient with the UVA Alerts and Veoci software systems.
  • Assist with developing and staffing an ICS structured Medical Center Incident Command Team capable of operating 24/7 under the direction of an Incident Commander and staff.
  • Conduct employee and staff outreach and education.
  • Acquire and maintain a basic understanding of the Joint Commission Standards related to Emergency Management and incorporate into plans.
  • Participate in evening, night, and weekend work as required, such as during severe weather and when staffing a command post or the emergency operations center.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in emergency management or a related discipline.
  • One year of full-time emergency management experience.
  • Ability to adjust to a changing environment, manage competing and shifting priorities and deadlines with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to foster an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Obtain IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800 certificates within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Obtain Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) certification within the first 18 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in emergency management or a related discipline.
  • Three years of full-time emergency management experience.
  • Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) or Certified Emergency Management (CEM) certification.
  • Experience in Higher Education emergency management.
  • Experience with Veoci software.
Compensation

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $70,000 - $79,000.
