About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented HVAC Controls Engineer to join our team at Southland Industries. As a key member of our design and operations team, you will play a crucial role in assisting with the design and implementation of building automation systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support product and service training to customers, providing and documenting feedback on problem evaluation and resolution to project leaders.
  • Perform low to medium complex software design and programming, trial runs, and investigative tests.
  • Attend pre-booking meetings to gain knowledge of the sales estimate and project scope, working with the engineering group and/or supervisors to analyze plans, specifications, and contracts to determine system requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough project documentation and redlines, supporting owner training as required by the project.
  • Work with the engineering group to create and/or verify point databases.
  • Create/review job-specific programming via computer for various systems, including controls, point databases, and graphics in the Central Processing Unit (CPU).
  • Verify point databases and programming operations are consistent with the scope of work for the intended integration and sequence.
  • Back up data from data servers and/or create automated backup procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve inconsistencies in the functions or sequence of operations.
  • Participate in final inspection and testing, assure customer acceptance, and conduct training for end-user customers on system operations.
  • Work with senior engineers to assist in designing building automation systems, including mechanical system layouts, electrical drawings, bill of materials, sequence of operations, valve and damper schedules, DDC panel layouts, and more.
Requirements
  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and drive to get the job done.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to be resourceful and resilient.
  • Able to solve problems with limited support, with a quick learning ability and a positive attitude during adverse situations.
  • Goal-oriented, with a collaborative spirit and a good teammate attitude.
  • Strong active listening skills, with competent general business writing and public speaking abilities.
