Job Summary

As a Pharmacy Resident at SSM Health, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and patient-centered environment. You will be responsible for supervising pharmacy site, services, and personnel assigned, as well as facilitating the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems and workflows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise staff, students, and residents as assigned, including recruitment, orientation, training, performance management, staff development, counseling, disciplining, scheduling, payroll, and conducting staff meetings.
  • Serve as a resource to the pharmacy team in the provision of pharmacy services, working collaboratively with pharmacy leadership to set performance standards for the pharmacy department and maintain pharmacy staff engagement.
  • Evaluate and counsel staff on their performance, leading by example and demonstrating a thorough knowledge of all duties of employees working within the pharmacy.
  • Ensure efficient operations by developing standard workflows procedures, preparing task assignments for daily, weekly, and monthly responsibilities, and ensuring all sites follow established workflow and procedures.
  • Assist in the development of the pharmacy budget, reviewing monthly financial and human resource budget and explaining variances to supervisor and pharmacy leadership.
  • Continually monitor pharmacy for compliance with annual budget and strategic plan.
  • Create and promote a positive, customer service-oriented image of the pharmacy, ensuring pharmacy meets a high standard of confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Ensure pharmacy customer service levels are maintained to meet the goals of the organization and ensure the quality of pharmacy services are consistently provided.
  • Provide service recovery and conflict resolution when necessary to ensure service levels and quality of pharmacy services are maintained.
  • Contribute to zero medication errors with injury by completing Near Miss and Occurrence reports, reviewing medication event reports, and identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities.
  • Actively assess the security of medication areas and the compliance of personnel with established policies, procedures, state and federal laws, including record keeping.
  • Maintain established procedures for quality control and disposal of unusable medications and hazardous waste.
  • Issue controlled substances and maintain records as required by law, pharmacy policies, and procedures, including reporting to any applicable Pharmacy Drug Monitoring Program.
  • Review controlled substances records for discrepancies/errors and report discrepancies to the appropriate authority(s).
  • Maintain appropriate inventory of medications and supplies, ensuring inventory is rotated and expired stock is appropriately disposed of and orders are placed in a timely manner.
  • Perform duties of a clinical staff pharmacist, including verification of medication orders, dispensing of medications, patient consultation, and compounding, following all pharmacy policies and procedures and in compliance with all state and federal regulations.
  • Lead pharmacy site in identifying and completing medication therapy management opportunities and in recommending, administering, and educating on immunizations as appropriate.
  • Stay current with professional literature and maintain the competence required for the position.
  • Create and maintain positive, productive working relationships with site leadership and prescribers.
  • Provide support and serve as a resource for nurses, medical staff, and other healthcare providers' medication information and education.
  • Responsible for after-hours calls at their pharmacy first to answer alarms from the security company.
  • Precept pharmacy students and residents, as applicable.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D; Bachelor of Pharmacy) from an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • One year experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.
Required Professional License and/or Certifications
  • Pharmacist, Registered - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
  • Pharmacist - Missouri Division of Professional Registration.
  • Pharmacist - Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Pharmacist - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
