Certified Surgical Technologist

We are seeking a skilled Certified Surgical Technologist to join our team at Northwell Health. As a key member of our surgical team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures and providing exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities- Implement and communicate the age-specific plan of care and provide thorough reports at change of shift and relief time.
- Communicate with team members regarding the need for special equipment and supplies, and implementation of care per established policy.
- Participate in turnover activities and room set up for each surgical procedure, including connection of suction, electrical cords, power cables, and electrocautery.
- Monitor each case to ensure all infection control measures are met and all sterilization standards are adhered to.
- Establish and maintain a sterile field and monitor the aseptic technique of the surgical team; document accordingly and take corrective action as necessary.
- Adhere to and monitor principles of aseptic techniques in the clinical environment, including use of sterile instruments and supplies.
- Perform sponge, sharp, and instrument counts with the RN according to policy and take appropriate action when counts are incorrect.
- Ensure appropriate and safe use of equipment and instrumentation prior, during, and post-operatively.
- Assist the surgeon with patient care procedures, including proper labeling of all specimens from the surgical field, tapping mallet, and cutting suture (licensed personnel only).
- Minimum of one year of experience as a Surgical Technologist or in a clinical setting (for LPNs).
- Successful completion of a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists and holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist (CST) credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
- Ability to function effectively in emergency situations.
