Inland Fisheries Management Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Seasonal Research Assistant in the Inland Fisheries Management Programs. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in fisheries management and research, working with a dynamic team to collect and analyze data, and contribute to the conservation and management of Connecticut's freshwater fish populations.
Responsibilities- Collect and analyze data from trap net and electrofishing surveys in rivers, streams, and lakes.
- Assist in the operation of spawning marshes for Northern Pike and daily stocking and operations at state trout hatcheries.
- Enter fish community and population data into our database.
- Conduct counts and interviews with anglers to gather information on fishing practices and preferences.
- Assist with general maintenance and upkeep of equipment, boats, and facilities.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds or more.
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate a boat.
- College-level coursework or experience in aquatic biology, ecology, fisheries management, or a related field.
- Experience working outdoors, on the water, and in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Connecticut's freshwater fish populations and habitats.
This is a seasonal position, typically working 6 months per year. Hours will often be during normal working hours, but late nights and weekends may be required. Incumbents must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
