In this pivotal role, you will serve as a key contributor within the Capital Group (CG) Application Security / Penetration Testing team.

The CG Application Security team operates under the umbrella of Information Security within CG's Information Technology Group.

Your responsibilities will encompass conducting thorough web application and network penetration tests, performing code evaluations, engaging in security design assessments, and executing red/purple team evaluations while providing security validations for various technology projects.

You will identify security vulnerabilities across web platforms, mobile applications, and other systems through techniques such as threat modeling, code evaluations (Java, TypeScript/JavaScript, Python), and dynamic application assessments.

As a Lead Security Assessment Engineer, you will also take charge of executing red and purple team evaluations to assess the effectiveness of Capital Group's security controls.

The team is composed of members from diverse geographical locations with varying levels of expertise. As a senior team member, you will be tasked with developing proof-of-concept exploits for the vulnerabilities identified.

Your role will involve coordinating and communicating with key technology stakeholders to deliver comprehensive security assessments while articulating technology risks and recommended mitigations.

This position offers a hybrid work model (in-office 3 days/week) and can be based in various locations depending on candidate preference.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting In-Depth Security Evaluations: Execute extensive penetration tests, infrastructure vulnerability assessments, and application security evaluations to uncover weaknesses and potential attack pathways.
  • Executing Security Tests: Plan and implement penetration testing activities utilizing a variety of tools (SAST, DAST, SCA tools) and methodologies, including network scanning and web application testing.
  • Analyzing and Reporting Results: Examine test outcomes and prepare comprehensive reports detailing identified vulnerabilities, their potential impacts, and suggested remediation strategies.
  • Collaborating with Teams: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, system administrators, and business stakeholders, to prioritize and resolve security findings.
  • Staying Updated on Emerging Threats: Remain informed about the latest security trends, vulnerabilities, and attack methodologies to continuously enhance testing practices and stay ahead of potential threats.
  • Developing Automated Solutions: Create automated proof-of-concept exploits and security testing tools to streamline security assessments.
  • Leading Capture-the-Flag Competitions: Organize and lead Capture-the-Flag (CTF) competitions and actively participate in such events.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should possess a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

You should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in Penetration Testing, Red Team operations, or Application Security.

A strong understanding of network security principles, including TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, HTTP, and various security protocols and technologies, is essential.

Experience with tools such as REST APIs, Burp Suite, ZAP, Kali Linux, and Metasploit is highly desirable.

Proficiency in automating tasks using programming languages such as Python, bash, Java, or C/C++ is expected.

Familiarity with cloud security best practices and frameworks, as well as a strong grasp of common security vulnerabilities and exploitation techniques, is crucial.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary to convey complex technical details to diverse audiences.
