Nuclear Safety Engineer Job Description

The Nuclear Safety Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the safe operation of the Hanford Vit Plant, a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste into a form safe for disposal.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement safety programs and procedures to protect personnel, the public, and the environment from radiation exposure.
  • Conduct hazard analyses and risk assessments to identify potential safety risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement safety-related systems and procedures.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain safety documentation, including safety basis documents and process hazard analyses.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate engineering discipline or related science from a four-year accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of nine years of professional experience in nuclear safety engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with DOE nuclear projects safety basis development, or commercial nuclear power plant licensing or analysis.
  • Knowledge in nuclear safety/engineering, including radiation protection and safety regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design guides, and relevant Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
  • Experience in processing facilities, DOE facilities, or DOD facilities.
  • Experience with national consensus codes and standards.
