Job Summary

The Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Subject Matter Expert plays a critical role in ensuring the optimal readiness and response capabilities of military units in the field. This position requires a deep understanding of CBRN equipment operations and maintenance protocols, as well as the ability to provide technical analysis and expertise to support CBRN-related equipment destined for military deployments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical analysis on CBRN equipment, including complex systems and component-level repairs.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on CBRN equipment to ensure operational readiness and compliance with safety standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections and inventory checks to maintain accountability of CBRN equipment and materials.
  • Evaluate purchased equipment to verify alignment with mission requirements and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including equipment records, maintenance logs, inventory reports, calibration, and equipment status reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of government-furnished equipment (GFE) using hand receipt documents.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of CBRN storage facilities and transportation vehicles to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Provide component lists and parts numbers for initial equipment fielding and special purchases.
  • Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely acquisition and transportation of CBRN equipment for deployment.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for CBRN-related issues.
  • Perform routine and specialized tasks on equipment as needed, adhering to established procedures and protocols.
  • Provide training and guidance to personnel on the proper operation, maintenance, and handling of CBRN equipment.
  • Develop and implement training programs on the operation and repair of CBRN equipment.
  • Organize training initiatives for approval by the site director, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Participate in exercises, drills, and training events to test and evaluate CBRN equipment readiness and response capabilities.
  • Facilitate clear communication and timely follow-up between logistics point-of-contact, commanders, and contractor personnel to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of operational activities.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of deployment plans for CBRN equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including military units, government agencies, and contractors, to support CBRN equipment requirements.
  • Ensure a safe work environment by proactively maintaining hazard-free conditions and promptly reporting any unsafe situations or hazards.
  • Receive, stock, and issue warehouse float stock estimated at fifteen (15) percent of the total fielded equipment.
  • Perform a monthly cyclic inventory of stock consisting of ten (10) percent of the total stock line items with reported findings submitted to COR no more than one (1) week after each cyclic inventory is completed.
  • Ensure inventory is delivered to the shipping dock within four (4) hours of receiving an approved requisition and coordinate appropriate shipping arrangements within the same four (4) hour period.
  • Complete a Report of Discrepancy (ROD) when a non-conforming shipment has been received and resolve all RODs within thirty (30) days of the date of the non-conforming shipment documenting all vendor communication.
  • Ship all non-critical OEM repairable items within three (3) working days upon receiving the item requiring repair.
  • Provide sustainment support for the National Guard Bureau (NGB) unique items of fielded equipment.
  • Purchase and maintain operational stocks by replenishing the Authorized Stock List items, training sets, and FAST packages.
  • Establish and deploy pre-prepared FAST packages (with personnel) to incident sites.
Requirements
  • Expert knowledge of CBRN equipment operations, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing the handling and transportation of hazardous materials.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to assess risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of plumbing and electrical systems, including their components and operation.
  • Proficiency in base military terminology, including relevant concepts and terminology utilized within military contexts.
  • Demonstrated capacity to operate with equal effectiveness in both autonomous and collaborative settings, exhibiting adaptability and proficiency in diverse work environments.
  • Expertise in the intricacies of CBRN processes and procedures.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance.

Education and Experience
  • Non-Military Personnel:
    • Bachelor's degree in physical science, biology, chemistry, or physics.
    • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in physical science, biology, chemistry, physics, or related field.
  • Prior Military Personnel:
    • Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) with a minimum of five (5) years' experience, or
    • Company Grade Officer with minimum of three (3) years' experience in related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Non-Military Personnel:
    • Master's degree in physical science, biology, chemistry, or physics.
    • Minimum of seven (7) years' experience in physical science, biology, chemistry, physics, or related field.
  • Prior Military Personnel:
    • Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) with a minimum seven (7) years' experience in related field, or
    • Company Grade Officer with a minimum of five (5) years' experience in related field.

Physical Requirements
  • Capability to undertake tasks necessitating physical efforts, such as lifting, transporting, and relocating equipment up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability in traversing the facility premises, including standing, walking, bending, and kneeling, to execute inspections, maintenance, and inventory assessments.
  • Working in environments that may include exposure to noise, vibrations, chemicals, or additional hazards, requiring adherence to safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Occasionally bending, stooping, or reaching to access equipment, materials, or workstations.
  • Flexibility to work a rotating schedule as needed in the event of contingencies or as directed by management.
