Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lead Teacher to join our team at YWCA Richmond - SPROUT School. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe and stimulating learning environment that fosters the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive growth of our children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and facilitate daily programs that are age-appropriate and cognitively stimulating.
  • Arrange space, setting, and materials in the classroom and outdoors to ensure a clean, orderly, and child-centered environment.
  • Facilitate a child's learning using a Reggio Emilia inspired educational philosophy and demonstrate proficiency in adapting lessons and activities to meet the needs of all children.
  • Formally observe children's activities and progress, document, and share information with the teaching team and parents/guardians regularly.
  • Use observation, documentation, and data from the GOLD assessment tool as the foundation of provocations and experiences.
  • Maintain up-to-date children's portfolio and assessment records.
  • Develop and maintain a supportive rapport with parents/guardians and facilitate parent/guardian participation in the classrooms.
  • Promote community and foster social responsibility through multicultural and anti-bias programming and environments.
  • Manage children's behavior in a solution-focused, trauma-informed manner.
  • Complete required administrative paperwork to ensure compliance and quality.
Requirements
  • Credentials for the Lead Teacher position are tiered and classroom assignments are made based on educational credentials.
  • Minimum Qualifications: CDA or AA/BA in ECE; or a non-ECE BA with 15 ECE credits and 1 year of experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles and techniques of Early Childhood Education.
