State & Local Tax Compliance Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

As a State & Local Tax Accountant at Composites One, you will be responsible for guiding the tax compliance efforts across all jurisdictions in which our organization operates.

You will act as a project manager to ensure accurate data distribution, file maintenance, and timely tax filings, working closely with third-party firms and internal stakeholders to maintain compliance with all tax laws and regulations.

Key Tasks:

  • Manage tax compliance by ensuring timely filing and payment of all tax obligations across multiple jurisdictions for sales and use taxes, VAT, property taxes, and business licenses.
  • Oversee the complete compliance lifecycle, from data gathering to final submission, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Act as a Project Manager by coordinating the flow of information and documentation between internal teams, third-party firms, and government auditors.
  • Review and verify financial data by conducting thorough reviews of tax payments, accrual postings, and filings for accuracy and completeness.
  • Stay informed on tax regulations by continuously monitoring changes in tax laws and regulations at the state and local levels.
  • Support audit activities by leading the preparation and organization of materials for tax audits, collaborating with both internal teams and external advisors.
  • Maintain key tax calendars and deadlines by proactively managing a comprehensive calendar of all tax deadlines, upcoming assessments, and required payments.
  • Assist with special projects by providing crucial support to the Tax, Finance, and Accounting teams by participating in special tax reporting and financial projects as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in sales & use tax, VAT, and/or property tax.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience with SAP and Vertex.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with external auditors and tax advisory firms.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
