These part-time roles are designed to enhance the educational objectives of the Information and Decision Sciences Department.
Teaching Responsibilities
Courses may encompass a variety of subjects at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including but not limited to:
- Information Technology in Organizations
- Financial Information Systems and Technologies
- Business Process Optimization
- Enterprise Systems
Classes are scheduled during the day, evenings, and weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities associated with these positions include:
- Preparation of course materials (syllabi, handouts, assignments, quizzes, exams, etc.)
- Selection of textbooks
- Delivery of course content
- Assessment of student performance
- Maintenance of academic records
- Supervision of teaching assistants
- Availability for office hours
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Teaching Specialist:
A Bachelor’s degree accompanied by three years of experience in a relevant field.
Senior Teaching Specialist:
A Bachelor’s degree with six to eight years of experience in a related field, including at least four years of formal teaching experience.
Lecturer:
A terminal degree or a Master’s degree with five years of relevant industry or academic experience.
Senior Lecturer:
A terminal degree with ten years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with fifteen years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in college-level teaching is highly desirable across all levels.
About the Department
The University of Minnesota is recognized as a pioneering institution in the Management Information Systems (MIS) field and is home to the esteemed MIS Quarterly. New faculty members will have the advantage of engaging with the research and outreach initiatives of the Management Information Systems Research Center.
The department consists of 17 tenured or tenure-track faculty members and is involved in teaching and research across various domains of information systems, including:
- Organizational IT/IS
- Economics of Information Systems
- System Design and Management
- Decision Support Systems
- Knowledge Management
- Social Media
- Business Analytics
The department also hosts the MS-Business Analytics program, offering both full-time and part-time study options. A new undergraduate minor in business analytics was introduced recently, and there is an active doctoral program in information systems with students in residence.
