MAINTENANCE PLANNER/SCHEDULER

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Planner/Scheduler plays a crucial role in enhancing workforce efficiency and ensuring high-quality work by proactively identifying and mitigating potential delays. This position is responsible for the strategic planning, scheduling, and coordination of both preventive and corrective maintenance tasks. Collaboration with maintenance teams, operational staff, and various departments is essential to prioritize and execute maintenance activities, aiming to minimize downtime and optimize equipment reliability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leverage the company's CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for all planning functions.
  • Create comprehensive preventive and scheduled maintenance plans, including detailed work instructions, labor estimates, procedures, bills of materials, specifications, reference drawings, tool and equipment requirements, necessary permits, service histories, and any other essential information for efficient task completion.
  • Assess and filter all incoming maintenance requests, conduct pre-job planning, and integrate relevant safety protocols. Evaluate resource needs (labor, materials, equipment, tools, and services) to enhance planning efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with procurement to ensure the timely availability of spare parts and materials for planned work. Maintain appropriate stockroom inventories.
  • Work with the operations team to schedule maintenance activities during optimal periods and oversee the planning and scheduling of all major and minor plant shutdowns and related tasks.
  • Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies based on Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) data to boost plant availability and production output.
  • Monitor equipment performance and condition to preemptively address potential breakdowns. Adjust preventive maintenance schedules based on historical data to optimize frequency and enhance performance.
  • Act as a liaison between maintenance technicians, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Facilitate regular meetings to review maintenance schedules, priorities, and progress.
  • Engage with the factory management team during Key Performance Indicator (KPI) meetings and contribute to the establishment of site maintenance and reliability KPIs.
  • Play an active role in root cause analysis (RCA) teams to eliminate recurring downtime and prevent unplanned, costly outages.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude towards safety, adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, and comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
  • Ensure a safe environment for all employees and visitors by maintaining safety and housekeeping standards and addressing any identified hazards.
  • Report all incidents, including injuries, accidents, and property damage, promptly.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty and responsibility effectively. The qualifications listed below represent the necessary knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical demands required for this position:

Education/Certification/Licensure/Experience:

  • Associate's degree in a technical field plus five years of experience in industrial operations, including three years in maintenance, or
  • High School Diploma with ten years of experience in industrial operations, including five years in maintenance, along with multi-craft certifications obtained through extensive on-the-job training or apprenticeship programs.
  • Familiarity with maintenance and repair practices for industrial equipment and their components, such as bearings, pumps, gearboxes, valves, drives, actuators, motors, instrumentation, and controls.
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems associated with continuous industrial processing.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent attendance and a team-oriented mindset are essential. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels and departments. Strong problem-solving and leadership abilities. Capacity to maintain composure in high-pressure situations. Detail-oriented with exceptional documentation skills. Ability to work independently under general supervision. Knowledge of safe work practices and hazard control methods, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).

Ability to collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team. Proven ability to achieve results while adhering to collective bargaining agreements. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

This position involves work in a manufacturing plant environment, with exposure to varying temperatures depending on external conditions. The role requires continuous fine motor skills, including gripping, pushing, pulling, bending, standing, and lifting/carrying items over thirty (30) pounds. Availability for overtime, including weekends and holidays, is necessary.
