MAINTENANCE PLANNER/SCHEDULER

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Planner/Scheduler plays a crucial role in enhancing workforce efficiency and the quality of work by proactively identifying and mitigating potential delays. This position is accountable for the strategic planning, scheduling, and coordination of both preventive and corrective maintenance tasks. Collaboration with maintenance teams, operational staff, and various departments is essential to prioritize and execute maintenance activities, thereby minimizing downtime and optimizing equipment reliability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leverage the company's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage all planning functions.
  • Create comprehensive preventive and scheduled maintenance plans that include detailed work instructions, labor estimates, procedures, bill of materials, specifications, reference drawings, tool and equipment requirements, necessary permits, service histories, and any other relevant information to facilitate efficient work execution.
  • Assess and screen all incoming maintenance requests, conduct pre-job planning, and integrate all relevant safety protocols. Evaluate resource needs (labor, materials, equipment, tools, and services) to enhance planning efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with procurement to ensure the timely availability of spare parts and materials necessary for planned work. Manage stockroom inventories effectively.
  • Work with the operations team to schedule maintenance activities during optimal times and oversee the planning and scheduling of all major and minor plant shutdowns and related tasks.
  • Design and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs based on Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) data to boost plant availability and production output.
  • Monitor equipment performance and condition to foresee and avert breakdowns. Adjust preventive maintenance schedules based on historical data to optimize frequency and enhance performance.
  • Act as a liaison between maintenance technicians, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Facilitate regular meetings to review maintenance schedules, priorities, and progress.
  • Engage with the factory management team during Key Performance Indicator (KPI) meetings and contribute to the development of site maintenance and reliability KPIs.
  • Participate actively in root cause analysis (RCA) teams to eliminate recurring downtime and prevent unplanned and costly outages.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude towards safety, adhere to all safety policies and procedures, and promote a safe working environment.
  • Comply with all Health, Safety, and Environmental standards, as well as the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Ensure a safe environment for all employees and visitors by maintaining safety and housekeeping standards and addressing any hazards or unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Report all incidents, including injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses, and property damage, immediately.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • A 2-year technical degree combined with 5 years of experience in industrial operations, including 3 years in maintenance, or
  • A High School Diploma with 10 years of experience in industrial operations, including 5 years in maintenance, supplemented by multi-craft certifications obtained through extensive on-the-job training or apprenticeship programs.
  • Proficient knowledge of maintenance and repair practices for industrial equipment and associated components such as bearings, pumps, gearboxes, valves, drives, actuators, motors, instrumentation, and controls.
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems related to continuous industrial processing.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent attendance, and a team-oriented mindset are essential. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels and departments, possess strong problem-solving and leadership abilities, and maintain composure in high-pressure situations. Attention to detail and exceptional documentation skills are crucial. The ability to work independently under general supervision and knowledge of safe work practices and hazard control methods, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), is required.

Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and deliver results while adhering to collective bargaining agreements. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word is necessary.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position involves work in a manufacturing plant environment, with exposure to varying temperatures depending on external conditions. The role requires continuous fine motor movements, gripping, pushing, pulling, bending, standing, and lifting and carrying items over thirty (30) lbs. Availability for overtime, including weekends and holidays, is required.
