Key Responsibilities- Pre-Surgical Preparation: Prepare for surgical procedures by selecting and placing surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment. Ensure good working order of instruments and review case carts for correct instruments and supplies.
- Assisting Surgeons: Anticipate the surgeon's needs, pass instruments, retract tissue, and operate equipment during surgery. Demonstrate principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure.
- Post-Surgical Procedures: Dispose of sharps and trash, place used supplies into case carts for processing, and participate in counting of sharps, instruments, and sponges. Prepare instruments for cleaning following each case.
- Administrative Support: Assist with OR turnover between cases, participate in stocking, replenishing supplies, and cleaning operating rooms. Provide business support to the department, including assigned administrative tasks.
- Quality and Safety: Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory, and accreditation requirements. Provide excellent service to all customers by consistently demonstrating core and leader behaviors.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Certifications: BLS required. Where applicable, must be registered with State Regulatory Agency.
- Skills: Manual dexterity, ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations, conscientious, organized, and orderly, and ability to respond quickly to the needs of the surgeon and patient.
- Education: Graduation from a certified school of surgical technology or 2 years of operating room experience.
