Job Title: Chemical Safety Officer

The George Washington University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chemical Safety Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Safety and Security department, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe handling and use of chemicals in our laboratories and research facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement safety protocols and procedures for the handling and use of chemicals in laboratories and research facilities.
  • Conduct regular inspections of laboratories and research facilities to ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols.
  • Provide training and guidance to researchers and laboratory personnel on safe handling and use of chemicals.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents related to chemical handling and use, and develop recommendations for prevention and mitigation.
  • Collaborate with researchers, laboratory personnel, and other stakeholders to develop and implement safety policies and procedures.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as chemistry, biology, or environmental health and safety.
  • 5+ years of experience in a laboratory or research setting, with a focus on chemical safety and compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and protocols, including OSHA and EPA guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with researchers, laboratory personnel, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
