Estate Planning and Elder Law Associate Attorney

We are looking for a dedicated Associate Attorney to become part of our expanding firm specializing in trusts, estates, and elder law. In this position, you will support the lead attorney while also having the opportunity to manage estate planning, probate, guardianship, and elder law matters independently, receiving the necessary guidance to excel in client advocacy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver outstanding client service by being attentive, empathetic, and proactive to ensure a positive experience for all clients.
  • Assist clients in understanding their legal needs, evaluating options, and formulating strategies that align with their goals.
  • Draft legal documents under the oversight of a qualified attorney, including Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, and Court filings, in collaboration with a team.
  • Conduct meetings with clients to review and finalize their legal documents.
  • Exhibit compassion and understanding towards clients navigating difficult circumstances.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment to meet individual, firm, and client objectives.
  • Uphold confidentiality and adhere to legal ethical standards.
  • Follow organizational legal protocols and timelines to ensure timely and precise task completion.
  • Perform additional legal duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid North Carolina law license is required.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in estate planning is highly preferred.
  • If lacking practice experience, completion of relevant coursework and training in estate planning is mandatory.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in emotionally charged situations.
  • Ability to manage some independent cases while supporting the senior attorney.
  • Capability to meet established work standards for time management, client communication, document preparation, and case oversight.
  • Professional and approachable demeanor that contributes positively to our workplace culture.
  • Ability to handle cases in various counties, with reliable transportation.
  • Capacity to build strong working relationships with clients and be readily available to address inquiries.
  • Valid North Carolina Notary Public certification, or the ability to obtain it promptly.
  • Three professional references are required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.
