Job Summary:

The Breastfeeding Specialist is a key member of the Baystate Health team, responsible for providing expert lactation care to patients and their families. This role requires a strong understanding of perinatal nursing practices, anatomy, and physiology, as well as clinical breastfeeding issues.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Conduct thorough assessments of inpatients and outpatients referred for individual breastfeeding consultations and teaching. Develop and implement personalized breastfeeding education plans based on patient assessment and medical plan of care.

2. Foster strong relationships with patients, families, medical staff, and other employees, adhering to the principles of Baystate Health.

3. Stay up-to-date with the latest knowledge and best practices in lactation care through ongoing education and professional development.

4. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care and support to patients and families.

5. Provide ongoing support and education to new families beyond the birth of the baby, including phone support, breastfeeding support groups, and community events.

6. Work closely with Nursing Administration and Nursing Management to ensure the success of the Lactation Consultant Program.

Requirements:

1. 3-5 years of experience working with mothers and infants.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. 1-3 years of experience as a Lactation Consultant.

Essential Skills and Competencies:

1. Strong assessment skills, with the ability to develop, implement, and evaluate breastfeeding plans.
