The Caruso School of Law at Pepperdine University is seeking a Director of Marketing & Communications who will report directly to the Senior Director of Client Relations. This pivotal role is responsible for enhancing and promoting the school's image and reputation across various communities, including campus, alumni, and broader audiences both nationally and internationally.
As the Integrated Marketing Communications account executive for the Caruso School of Law, the Director will oversee day-to-day and long-term marketing, communications, and brand management strategies for five centers and institutes, notably the renowned Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution. This position will collaborate closely with all Integrated Marketing Communications teams to provide strategic communication guidance to the School of Law's dean, administration, and alumni relations teams. The Director will spearhead marketing initiatives, manage the advertising budget across print and digital platforms, and serve as the primary liaison with external media partners. Key projects will include the law school's enrollment growth marketing strategy, website development, campus communication channels, social media management, annual publications, and regular e-newsletters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enrollment Marketing: Design, implement, and manage marketing strategies and outreach communications that align with the recruitment and enrollment objectives of the Caruso School of Law, ensuring an accurate representation of the student experience. Collaborate with marketing and enrollment leaders to create personalized email journeys for prospective students.
  • Strategic Communications | Public Relations: Lead the strategic communications initiatives for the Caruso School of Law, working in tandem with the university's public relations professionals to promote the school through significant local, regional, and national media outlets.
  • Project Management: Act as the primary lead within the Integrated Marketing Communications team to conceptualize, develop, and execute a variety of print, video, and digital marketing projects that support the recruitment, enrollment, and branding efforts of Pepperdine University and the Caruso School of Law.
  • Data Analysis: Collaborate with the Enrollment Marketing and Digital Strategy team to generate reports evaluating the effectiveness of marketing and communication strategies, while researching growth opportunities. Utilize data insights to refine marketing and communication efforts.
  • Rankings Collaboration: Work with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Communications and Public Relations, and the CSOL Dean's office to analyze rankings data and provide recommendations for identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
  • External Partner Management: Cultivate relationships and negotiate contracts with external partners and vendors, in coordination with the Senior Director of Client Relations and other key stakeholders, to optimize efficiencies and assess lead performance and ROI.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Support the University mission through all activities.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: A Bachelor's degree in communication, business, marketing, or advertising is preferred. A minimum of three years of relevant marketing experience in higher education or a related field is essential. Proficiency in computer applications, database management, project management, and strong writing and editing skills are required. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, manage diverse perspectives, and effectively represent the Pepperdine brand with a commitment to diversity and the Christian mission. Strong organizational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Analytics, G Suite, and Mac systems are necessary.

Preferred: An MBA with a marketing focus is desirable. Five years of marketing experience in higher education recruitment or enrollment is preferred, along with supervisory experience and expertise in current marketing trends. Leadership potential within Pepperdine University and the higher education sector is advantageous, as is the ability to analyze and demonstrate return on investment. Familiarity with Adobe Suite, survey software, Salesforce, PeopleSoft, and OmniUpdate is beneficial.

This is a Regular, Exempt position requiring 40 hours of work per week.

Expected Pay Range: $93,500 - $110,000 per year.
