Job Title: Development Associate

The Forest Society of Maine is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Development Associate to join our team. As a key member of our development team, you will play a critical role in supporting our efforts to conserve and maintain the multiple values of forestlands in Maine.

Responsibilities:
  • Process and record donor gifts and pledges, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to support all resource development activities.
  • Maintain and update our development database, ensuring seamless integration with finance staff and other stakeholders.
  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of our biannual newsletter, including content creation, design, and distribution.
  • Develop and maintain engaging content for our website, including oversight of web contacts and responses in consultation with other staff members.
  • Collaborate with our development officer to create and implement communication and fundraising plans, ensuring annual development goals are met.
  • Assist with creating and coordinating prospect lists, letters, thank-yous, and other appeals to support our annual fundraising efforts.
  • Manage and create content for our Constant Contact account, assist with social media management, and provide support for online marketing and communications as needed.
  • Develop and create fundraising and outreach-related informational materials, including ads, press releases, displays, and social media posts.
  • Assist with event planning, including invitations, promotional announcements, and guest list management.
  • Provide proofreading assistance for proposals, solicitations, and other materials as needed.
  • Support the Forest Society of Maine board, development committee, advisory council, and other volunteers and staff with development-related updates and information.
  • Collaborate with our development officer to maintain policies, procedures, and protocols for development.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field or equivalent work experience demonstrating ability to fulfill the responsibilities required for this role.
  • Excellent written communication and grammatical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy.
  • Experience handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong curiosity and willingness to troubleshoot difficulties.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience working with fundraising databases, websites, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness working in a small office environment.
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of the Forest Society of Maine.
Benefits:

This is a permanent, full-time position with benefits, including retirement, health insurance, paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation time. Work will be based at the Forest Society of Maine's office in Bangor, with an annual salary commensurate with experience and skills within an anticipated range of $45,000 - $55,000.
