Job Summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake and Carolinas is seeking a skilled Community Engagement Housing Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program, you will play a vital role in promoting housing stability and self-sufficiency among homeless and at-risk veterans and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide outreach and engagement services to homeless and at-risk veterans and their families, promoting access to housing resources and support services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local landlords, property managers, and other community stakeholders to secure affordable housing options for program participants.
  • Conduct home visits and assessments to identify housing needs and develop personalized housing plans for participants.
  • Collaborate with case managers and other program staff to ensure seamless delivery of services and support.
  • Participate in community outreach and education efforts to raise awareness about the SSVF program and its services.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including participant data and program outcomes.
Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 2 years of experience working with homeless populations, preferably veterans.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including veterans, landlords, and community partners.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to customer service and program outcomes.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, with the ability to travel to various locations throughout the service area.
