About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Fraud Services Investigator to join our team at MidWestOne Bank. As a Fraud Services Investigator, you will play a critical role in investigating circumstances of suspected fraud and making recommendations to prevent future occurrences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough investigations of suspected fraud cases, including conducting research, interviewing individuals, and gathering evidence.
  • Manage assigned fraud cases, including coordinating with internal teams and external law enforcement agencies as necessary.
  • Identify and assess potentially fraudulent activity through review of information system monitoring, escalated fraud alerts, and other sources.
  • Form initial determinations regarding additional actions to be taken and recommend possible Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR) filings to the Fraud Services Manager and/or the AML Investigations team.
  • Write and prepare SARs, following established regulatory guidelines and time frames.
  • Provide support to the Fraud Services Department Team Leader with various duties, including coordinating research and responding to subpoenas, summons, and other law enforcement requests.
  • Perform daily review of returned deposited items and redeposited items for fraud concerns.
  • Perform regular monitoring and follow-up on new customer on-boarding applications to identify fraudulent applicants.
  • Maintain the internal hotlist of individuals.
  • Assist in developing and presenting Fraud Prevention training for bank staff and customers.
  • Monitor and enforce fraud policies and procedures in conjunction with the Fraud Services Manager.
  • May lead and/or work on additional projects in the department.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university preferred with one to two years related experience and/or training in bank operations; or equivalent combination of education and overall experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make sound judgments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external law enforcement agencies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
