Job Summary

Northern Arizona Healthcare is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to join our team as a Supplemental Work and Transition (SWAT) Registered Nurse. This role is responsible for providing patient care and facilitating patient throughput throughout the hospital, while also serving as a leader and advocate for the nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care
    • Address patient and family concerns, communicate issues and solutions through appropriate channels.
    • Document incidents, events, interventions, and patient/staff/physician responses.
    • Serve as patient advocate, prioritizing and problem-solving to meet changes in patient status/condition.
    • Work with other departments to ensure smooth patient throughput processes, including discharge planning and patient education as appropriate.
    • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure staffing patterns meet appropriate skill mix necessary for quality patient care.
    • Serve as a liaison with patients, physicians, administrative coordinators, unit staff, ancillary staff, and departments.
    • Assist staff in caring for patients and respond to Code Blue, rapid Response, Stroke, Code Transfusion, Trauma, AMI, and Stroke Alerts.
    • Perform MRI safety training, Level 2 clearance, use of MRI monitoring equipment, and infusion pumps.
    • Assume the role of RN transports for monitored patients, including admissions, diagnostic radiology testing, and special procedures.
    • Provide care in all inpatient and emergency room areas of the hospital and assume care of Critical Care patients.
  • Administrative
    • Support administrative coordinators and charge nurses to determine departmental needs and provide quality care and maintain unit productivity.
    • Coordinate and assist charge nurses with patient care assignments and delegation of patient care activities to unit and ancillary staff.
    • Address workflow issues, ensure incidents are documented, and corrective steps are taken.
    • Identify appropriate referral and educational resources for patients and staff.
    • Advocate for patients and staff as needs arise.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of NAH and department policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with best practices among staff members.
  • Coaching and Development
    • Ensure staff accountability, monitor staff performance, and provide real-time constructive feedback.
    • Identify performance opportunities for improvement and provide resources and education as needed.
    • Regularly recognize fellow colleagues for performance and improvements.
    • Collaborate and communicate with administrative coordinators and clinical managers regarding staff performance.
    • Provide coaching to nursing staff.
    • Provide input to nursing leadership regarding performance, promotion, and corrective action.
  • Education
    • Participate in creating and sustaining a learning environment supported by evidence-based practice and research.
    • Focus on personal development areas, engaging in professional/collegial interactions with peers and students.
    • Work collaboratively with peers and other healthcare providers, participating in ongoing in-service and educational seminars.
    • Participate in the mentoring and education of colleagues and students.
  • Compliance/Safety
    • Report safety-related incidents in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool.
    • Attend all safety-related training programs.
    • Perform work in a safe manner, monitoring the work environment for possible safety issues and ensuring others are also performing work in a safe manner.
    • Adhere to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety, as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
    • Stay current and comply with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
    • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, EMR entries, and patient responses.
