Senior Fresh Food Buyer

Compensation: $125,000 Plus Bonus and Benefits

Location: Corporate Office

Carrie Rikon & Associates, LLC is seeking a skilled professional to oversee the effective procurement and timely delivery of fresh food products. This role involves collaboration with the Senior Director of Purchasing and other Senior Buyers to fulfill the company's objectives. The successful candidate will manage supply chain operations and inventory for promotional categories while ensuring financial accountability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procure products in alignment with anticipated demand.
  • Negotiate optimal pricing, quality, and service consistently.
  • Ensure compliance with established procurement policies and procedures.
  • Aim to achieve inventory turnover goals while maintaining service levels and minimizing excess stock.

The role requires effective collaboration with various departments and personnel to fulfill job responsibilities. Building and maintaining strong relationships with vendors, store operations, and distribution center staff is essential.

  • Evaluate acquisition costs to guarantee purchases are made at the most competitive prices while considering quality and reliability.
  • Analyze current inventory, market trends, and promotional effects to forecast order quantities and provide insights to the merchandising team.
  • Conduct evaluations post-promotion to assess if objectives were met and identify solutions for any challenges encountered.
  • Address and resolve inventory discrepancies at the store level resulting from allocations or order issues.
  • Review daily and weekly reports to track costs, quality, service levels, inventory turnover, and excess stock, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Visit stores as required to oversee program implementation and gather feedback.
  • Manage Accounts Payable discrepancies for sourced items to ensure accurate invoicing.
  • Resolve billing inquiries by investigating discrepancies reported at the store level and processing credits when appropriate.
  • Maintain all essential departmental records and files.
  • Coordinate with Warehouse Operations to ensure timely product flow through the facility.
  • Utilize remote access for procurement systems when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of experience in Purchasing or Vendor Management within the grocery or retail sectors; experience in candy or beverage sectors is advantageous.
  • Preferred background in Marketing/Logistics or a strong understanding of store operations and merchandising practices.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of grocery procurement, logistics, inventory management, marketing, and financial management.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical abilities; capacity to take initiative and make informed decisions.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to foster productive business relationships.
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Able to maintain focus and manage frequent interruptions.
