Senior Fresh Food Buyer

Compensation: $125,000 Plus Bonus and Benefits

Location: Corporate Office

Carrie Rikon & Associates, LLC is seeking a dedicated Senior Fresh Food Buyer to oversee the effective procurement and timely delivery of fresh food products. This role involves close collaboration with the Senior Director of Purchasing and other Senior Buyers to meet the company’s objectives. The position is crucial for managing supply chain and inventory for promotional categories while ensuring financial accountability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procure products in alignment with projected demand.
  • Negotiate optimal pricing, quality, and service levels consistently.
  • Ensure compliance with established procurement policies and procedures.
  • Aim to achieve inventory turnover goals while maintaining service levels and minimizing excess stock.

Engage with various departments and personnel to fulfill job responsibilities effectively. Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, store operations, and distribution center staff.

  • Evaluate acquisition costs to ensure purchases are made at the best possible prices while considering quality and reliability.
  • Analyze current inventory, market trends, and promotional impacts to forecast order quantities and advise the merchandising team.
  • Conduct reviews post-promotions to assess success and identify areas for improvement.
  • Address and resolve inventory discrepancies at the store level due to allocation or ordering issues.
  • Monitor daily and weekly reports to track costs, quality, service levels, inventory turnover, and distress, making necessary adjustments.
  • Visit stores as required to oversee program implementation and gather feedback.
  • Manage Accounts Payable discrepancies for items sourced through distribution to ensure accurate invoicing.
  • Resolve billing inquiries by investigating discrepancies reported at the store level.
  • Maintain comprehensive department records and files.
  • Coordinate with Warehouse Operations to ensure efficient product flow.
  • Utilize remote access for procurement activities when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of experience in Purchasing or Vendor Management within the grocery or retail sectors.
  • Preferred experience in Marketing/Logistics or a strong understanding of store operations and merchandising practices.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of grocery procurement, logistics, inventory management, and financial practices.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical abilities; capable of making informed, data-driven decisions.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to foster effective business relationships.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Able to maintain focus and productivity amidst frequent interruptions.
