About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Food Product Development Scientist to join our Product Development team at Target. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing innovative food products that meet the needs of our guests.

As a Food Product Development Scientist, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop products that are not only delicious but also meet the highest standards of quality and safety. You will be responsible for understanding business initiatives, product technical requirements, and performance expectations to ensure consistency of product.

You will also partner with Insights Teams to understand guest needs and support product development to meet those needs. Additionally, you will represent Product Development as part of a Cross Functional Team focused on developing owned brand products to appropriate levels of trend, quality, and cost.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Supporting the product development team by understanding business initiatives, product technical requirements, and performance expectations
  • Partnering with Insights Teams to understand guest needs and support product development
  • Representing Product Development as part of a Cross Functional Team focused on developing owned brand products
  • Developing a working knowledge of product manufacturing and vendor capability
  • Initiating and supporting Technical Functional Reviews with Food Safety & Quality, Sourcing, Product Development, and Structural Packaging

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline
  • 1-4 years' relevant experience in food product development and formulation
  • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of food product development and formulation, basic ingredient functionality and cost, and food manufacturing
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Effective problem-solving, creative thinking, and strategic thinking skills
  • Effective project management skills
