This position serves as a Medical Instrument Technician (Ultrasound) in the Radiology Department of the Indian Health Service in Pine Ridge, SD.
Key Responsibilities- Perform a wide range of complex ultrasound studies to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patient diseases.
- Support a 24-hour Radiology Department, including on-call/call-back status.
- Receive, review, and perform ultrasound exams as requested from physicians and other healthcare providers.
- Position and explain procedures to patients, and select, set up, adjust, and operate ultrasound equipment.
- Conduct examinations, adjusting technique and equipment to best present medically significant aspects.
- Assist in the performance of invasive procedures with highly specialized equipment.
- Perform qualitative calibration checks to ensure ultrasound scans are reproducible.
- Selectee may be subject to a probationary/trial period.
- ESEP appointees typically serve a two-year trial period.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- This is a designated position covered by Public Law, requiring contact or control over Indian children.
- Measles and Rubella immunization is required for selectees born after 1957, and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service healthcare facilities.
- COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.
- The selected individual is required to maintain licensure or registration requirements.
- GS-08: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, performing tasks such as receiving requests for procedures or treatment, interpreting physician's requests or instructions, setting controls and operating equipment to get test or treatment results, cleaning and sterilizing instruments, conducting routine maintenance and adjustment checks, instructing other technicians, physicians, nurses, and others in the use of equipment, deciding how to adapt the instrument to the patient based on information gained through previous experience, observation, and results, and providing diagnostic or treatment services to acutely ill patients.
- Professional knowledge of physiology and cross-sectional human anatomy for both adult and pediatric care, including an in-depth understanding of the functioning of the major systems and internal organs to interpret requests and recognize the need for additional tests or a different position/examination.
