Job Title: Director of Nursing Labor and Delivery Room

Job Summary:

The Director of Nursing Labor and Delivery Room is a key member of the MedStar Health nursing leadership team, responsible for overseeing the operational, personnel, and financial activities of the Labor and Delivery unit. This leadership role requires a strong clinical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to create a positive and productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a practice environment that exemplifies the values of patient care and promotes a culture of excellence.
  • Lead and manage a team of nursing professionals to deliver high-quality patient care and achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the nursing leadership team, medical staff, and other departments to ensure seamless communication and coordination of care.
  • Develop and manage the unit budget, ensuring cost-effective utilization of resources and adherence to established standards of nursing practice.
  • Recruit, evaluate, coach, mentor, promote, counsel, discipline, and terminate associates as needed, ensuring alignment with MedStar's vision, mission, and values.
  • Develop and implement departmental goals that support the nursing strategic plan, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and patient care standards.
  • Monitor and analyze departmental performance data, identifying opportunities for performance improvement and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment of care delivery, promoting a culture of patient-centered care and customer engagement.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited program required.
  • Master's degree in Nursing or health-related field from a nationally accredited program preferred.
  • 5-7 years of nursing experience required, with 1-2 years of management and leadership experience preferred.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in Maryland required.
  • Specialty certification from a nationally recognized nursing organization in either clinical specialty or Nursing Administration within 2 years required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification from the National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 12 months from date of hire.
  • Basic knowledge of various computer software applications and online learning applications, especially Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
