Position Overview: This role is integral to our Lunar Transportation division, which is responsible for advancing the various Blue Moon lander product lines. In alignment with our mission, we are constructing sustainable infrastructure for the transportation of both crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Reporting Structure: This position is situated within the Design Section of the Lunar Transportation unit. As part of a dynamic and inquisitive team of design engineers, you will contribute to programs that are pivotal to the future of Blue Origin. Your expertise in analyzing spacecraft structures will be crucial in delivering safe, reliable, and ready-to-install hardware that adheres to established requirements, all while maintaining budgetary and scheduling constraints.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of load paths from initial concept through to drawing release and hardware fabrication.
  • Evaluate both primary and secondary spacecraft structures.
  • Integrate structural analysis with loads and dynamic environments.
  • Develop, refine, validate, and correlate Finite Element Models with testing outcomes.
  • Generate strength checks and analysis reports.
  • Create test and verification plans and reports.
  • Support configuration development and conduct trade studies.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. Degree in mechanical, aerospace, or civil engineering.
  • Level 2 Requirement: 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Level 3 Requirement: 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Level 4 Requirement: 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Level 5 Requirement: 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong foundation in structural static and dynamic principles.
  • Genuine interest in spacecraft structural and environmental loads development and validation.
  • Proficient in solving a variety of static and dynamic structural challenges using physics-based analytical methods.
  • Experience in aerospace, spacecraft, launch vehicles, or automotive sectors, particularly in areas such as external loads, vibro-acoustic analysis, and thermal loads.
  • Familiarity with analytical tools such as Nastran, Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, or Optistruct.
  • Ability to foster trust and maintain professional relationships, contributing to an inclusive workplace culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or legally admitted refugee/asylee.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in vehicle load path definition and strength analysis.
  • Knowledge of metallic and composite structures analysis.
  • Skills in composite design and analysis across various materials.
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods, material selection, and testing protocols.
  • Experience in structural optimization using industry-standard codes.
  • Familiarity with ProEngineer Wildfire 4 / Creo Parametric or later versions.
  • Experience with human spaceflight and composite materials.
