The Role

This role involves delivering non-credit educational courses in Workforce and Professional Education (WPE), specifically focusing on English as a Second Language (ESL) and Integrated English Literacy & Civics Education.

The Instructor will support adult learners in achieving literacy and acquiring essential skills for employment and self-sufficiency, while also engaging family members in the educational journey of their children.

The incumbent will act as a resource, mentor, and advisor to students, while also evaluating their progress towards course completion.

Instructional Duration:
Semester Based

Rate:
$458/CEU (Continuing Education Units)
*Compensation per class is based on the number of assigned Continuing Education Units (1 CEU equals 10 hours of work)

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver course instruction at various times and locations, including online, evening, and weekend sessions; develop and implement a course syllabus for each class while adhering to institutional guidelines and program requirements.
  • Design lessons and utilize educational materials to enhance students' skills necessary for daily living and employment in alignment with the program curriculum.
  • Act as a resource, mentor, and advisor to students regarding program matters while assessing their progress towards course completion and/or certification eligibility.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of student attendance and performance; provide timely and quality responses to students through electronic communication or other appropriate methods.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of an evaluation plan for assessing the effectiveness of the course and/or program under the guidance of designated management.
  • Stay updated in the subject matter area and adapt to evolving technology as required by the position.
  • Serve as a community resource and represent the college to external groups when necessary.
  • Engage in meetings and events to align instruction, monitor progress, identify challenges, and collaborate with staff and administration to enhance student transition success.
  • Complete any required annual training to ensure compliance with college policies and program requirements.
  • Perform related duties, initiatives, and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a closely related field or equivalent professional experience relevant to the subject/course being taught.
  • One to two years of demonstrated experience in preparing written communications, delivering presentations, and facilitating meetings, training sessions, or teaching classes.
  • One or more years of client service experience requiring interpersonal skills and interaction with a diverse population.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs as necessary for the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with standardized assessment tools and effective teaching strategies for adult education.
  • One year of experience teaching adults in various educational settings.
