Role Summary

In this role, you'll be part of our Materials Engineering team, working alongside subject matter experts to drive excellence in welding. You'll be responsible for developing and characterizing welding techniques, collaborating with designers and manufacturing teams to improve weld quality, and ensuring technical excellence across all Rivian product lines.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement welding processes and procedures to ensure high-quality welds
  • Collaborate with designers and manufacturing teams to improve weld quality and reduce defects
  • Conduct hands-on laboratory work and scientific analysis to develop and characterize welding techniques
  • Use expertise and process knowledge to diagnose and contain emergent manufacturing and in-service weld quality concerns
  • Develop and maintain welding standards and procedures to ensure compliance with industry regulations
  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop and implement welding automation solutions
  • Conduct failure analysis on welded components and develop recommendations for improvement
Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience as a welding engineer in a manufacturing environment
  • BS in Welding Engineering, Materials Science & Engineer, Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant field
  • MS or PhD preferred
  • Knowledge of statistical process control methods
  • Experience with BEV-specific structures such as skateboard and battery frame assemblies

Rivian provides a competitive salary range of $150,000-$173,000 for California-based applicants, as well as robust medical/Rx, dental, and vision insurance packages for full-time employees and their families.
