About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Highway Civil Engineer to join our team at TranSystems. As a key member of our highway division, you will be responsible for contributing to a variety of tasks such as plan development, quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking and signing, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, community engagement, report composition, specifications, cost estimations, roadway lighting, and other related duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze information and data to perform routine design tasks.
  • Receive instructions from Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.
  • Research design options and document findings.
  • Responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  • Research code requirements.
  • Prepare environmental impact and other administrative reports required for project permits.
  • Keep Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Assist or participate in preparation of business proposals.
  • May be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.
  • Actively engage multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited program.
  • Ability to obtain Fundamentals of Engineering registration within 1 year.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience (including internships).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate from ABET accredited program.
  • EIT
  • Previous internship experience in roadway, bridge, drainage, construction inspection and/or lighting.
  • Experience with Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, Illinois DOT, Chicago DOT, local municipalities, Metra, Class I railroads, or on other Federally-funded projects.
  • Geopak and/or Microstation working knowledge.
  • No relocation or stipend assistance.
