Job Summary

The Medical Assistant 2 provides essential support and administrative services to the office, doctors, and patients in a fast-paced doctor's office environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians in minor in-office procedures and provide cross-trained support in front desk receptionist roles, including scheduling, data entry, and patient record maintenance.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, establish effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public, and maintain a strong work ethic and professionalism.
  • Communicate effectively, multitask, and work under pressure to ensure consistent customer satisfaction and uphold HIPAA compliance.
  • Perform various administrative tasks, including greeting patients, escorting them to treatment rooms, and preparing exam rooms for physicians.
  • Count instruments, dispense DME, apply pads and adhesive strappings, perform X-rays, and complete pre-authorizations and rapid health indicators.
  • Obtain vitals, review patient medical history, medications, and allergies, and record changes in medical condition.
  • Set up for injections, P&A procedures, wart procedures, and in-office surgical procedures, and prepare lab specimens for pickup.
  • Replenish inventory, restock drawers and rooms, and maintain accurate patient records using data entry, faxing, and scanning.
  • Answer incoming calls, provide information, transfer calls, and take messages as necessary, and schedule appointments.
  • Collect deductibles, coinsurance, balances, copays, and sell OTC items, and check AR/AP changes since last visit and update records accordingly.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent
  • 6+ months of customer service experience required
  • Previous healthcare experience required
  • Frequent travel between office locations may be required
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
  • Knowledge of health insurance, pre-authorization, insurance verification, medical terminology, CPT codes, and ICD-9 codes preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced and demanding work environment
  • Must demonstrate a strong work ethic and maintain professionalism at all times
  • Must have a team mentality, flexibility, and willingness to learn

This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, fluids, or tissues as well as cleaning solvents and other chemicals.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
