POSITION SUMMARY:


The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of heavy machinery utilized in various projects, including but not limited to trucks, bulldozers, excavators, and other specialized equipment.

This role encompasses a range of responsibilities from basic maintenance tasks to advanced mechanical repairs, requiring a solid foundation of knowledge and specific certifications in heavy equipment mechanics.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


- Diagnose, service, and repair mechanical and electronic systems on heavy equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance, including oil changes and hydraulic fluid replacements, following manufacturer guidelines.
- Maintain an inventory of necessary parts and supplies for equipment upkeep.
- Document service records and prepare cost estimates for repairs.
- Overhaul and replace engines and other critical components.
- Ensure tools and workspaces are organized and maintained in optimal condition.
- Perform road tests on equipment to ensure functionality.
- Execute corrective and preventative maintenance on intermodal shipping containers.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2–7 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair. Diesel mechanic certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Welding certifications are a plus but not required.

Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in standard practices, tools, and materials used in heavy equipment repair.

- Skilled in diagnostic testing, tuning equipment, and the use of hand tools for repairs.

- Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Capable of interpreting manuals and schematics.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members.
- Motivated team player willing to perform diverse job functions.
- Ability to adhere to project-specific plans and procedures.

Special Requirements:
- Valid driver's license is required.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
- Proof of citizenship is necessary for employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to qualify as a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Radiation Worker II and complete OSHA HAZWOPER training, including passing a medical exam for respirator use.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


- Must be able to work in various types of personal protective equipment while performing tasks in diverse environments.

- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs independently.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Experience in environments with varying weather conditions and temperature extremes.
