Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer II to join our team at Blue Origin. This role is part of the New Shepard program, a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line.

About the Role

This position will be responsible for investigating root cause and disposition hardware discrepancies in New Shepard's actuated (hydraulic and mechanical) systems. You will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the Actuated Subsystem and related Ground Support Equipment (GSE).

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate root cause and disposition hardware discrepancies in New Shepard's actuated systems.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the Actuated Subsystem and related GSE.
  • Author specifications and procedures for design, production, and maintenance efforts.
  • Train for and participate in operations support during missions.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent experience. You should also have 3+ years of experience with designing, operating, and diagnosing hydraulic systems and hardware (actuators, valves, motors, mechanisms, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

A master's degree or Ph.D. in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or a related field, may be advantageous. Additionally, experience working in cross-discipline teams and a strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) would be beneficial.

Compensation

The estimated salary for this role is around $140,000 per year, based on industry standards and location.
