The Behavioral Support Specialist will provide individualized treatment for children with Special Health Care Needs, ages 2 to 21. They will implement learning programs (communication, self-help, play/social skills) under the direct supervision of a Licensed Clinician, collect data on target behaviors, incorporate parent training, and communicate with supervisors regularly.
Essential Work Duties- Focus on changing the client's behavior by observing and measuring the behavior in various environments.
- Gather behavioral data to track progress in reaching behavioral objectives identified in the behavior plan and periodically modify the plan, under the supervision of the Clinician, to adapt to the client's response to the intervention.
- Implement learning programs (communication, self-help, and social skills) as written and instructed by the Clinician.
- Collect data on all treatment goals.
- Personal care.
- Incorporate parent training so family members/caregivers can teach and support skills during typical family activities.
- Protect the rights and dignities of children with special healthcare needs and extend these rights and dignities to family members or guardians.
- Uphold and comply with all safety programs and policies to maintain a safe work environment for employees, consumers, family members, and visitors.
- Commit to organizational quality initiatives by participating in programs to assure quality improvements and team processes, including regular staff meeting attendance.
- Enhance the lives of those we serve through positive approaches, remembering that each person has individual needs and learning styles. Follow all approved treatment plans.
- Assist in the training and orientation of new staff, providing co-workers with positive and constructive feedback.
- Arrive to work on time, allowing time for necessary communication with families. Review communication logs at the beginning and end of all shifts.
- Follow all agency guidelines and department-specific policies, such as sick time or vacation time usage, call-in policies, dress codes, etc., as specified in the personnel manual.
- Utilize appropriate communication systems, including logs and direct communication to staff and supervisors.
- Participate in developing individualized treatment plans as appropriate and follow them accordingly. Actively participate in meetings.
- Be conscious of the schedules and responsibilities of those we serve with respect to their education and outside activities.
- Perform any other job responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.
- Work one-on-one in the home/community with a client with special healthcare needs.
- Review treatment plans to ensure comprehension and direction of the treatment and communicate any concerns related to clarity with the clinical supervisor.
- Meet with the treatment coordinator and clinical supervisor to review and discuss family concerns, scheduling issues, and plan administration.
- Attend agency and department-specific training.
- Be prompt and consistent with work schedules. Request a change in schedule at least two weeks before the change.
- Promptly turn in all completed time sheets and data sheets.
- Adhere to all agency policies.
