As a Genetic Counselor, you will provide genetic counseling and risk assessment services to patients, educate them on genetic and inherited conditions, and facilitate genetic screening and diagnostic testing processes.

Responsibilities
  • Provide genetic counseling and risk assessment services to patients
  • Counsel and educate patients and family members on genetic and inherited conditions
  • Obtain and review medical records, conduct literature reviews, and obtain patient and three-generation family history and risk assessment
  • Facilitate genetic screening and diagnostic testing processes, including informed consent and result disclosure
  • Communicate genetic test results, risk estimates, and standard recommendations to patients and referring physicians
  • Help patients and families adjust to genetic information using counseling skills and document all patient interactions
Requirements
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Counselor specializing in Genetics credentialed from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation
  • Education: High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience or Associate's degree/Technical degree or 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience
  • Additional Preferences: Illinois issued Genetic Counselor license, passion for prenatal genetic counseling
