As a key member of our genomics team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our state-of-the-art laboratory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lab Operations Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for laboratory operations, ensuring seamless day-to-day operations and addressing any special circumstances that may arise.
  • Supply Chain Management: Manage the procurement and maintenance of supplies, chemicals, and biological inventories, ensuring that consumables, buffers, reagents, and samples are stocked, created, and shipped as needed.
  • Laboratory Equipment Management: Oversee the management of laboratory equipment, including cataloging, surveillance, routine maintenance, and repair.
  • Policies and Protocols: Establish, maintain, and enforce laboratory policies and protocols, ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
  • New Staff Onboarding: Onboard new lab staff, providing training in standard operating procedures, equipment-specific requirements, and ordering.
  • Environmental Health and Safety: Act as the primary point of contact for Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), managing lab permits, protocol, training, and external liaising.
  • Lab Safety Compliance: Monitor and oversee lab safety compliance with established guidelines, including monitoring and maintenance of laboratory waste streams.
  • Status Reports: Generate status reports, including but not limited to, inventory levels, operations expenditure, lab incidents, or deviations from standard protocols.
  • Procurement Liaison: Serve as the primary procurement liaison for vendor database maintenance, vendor relationships, price negotiations, quoting, and purchase of lab equipment.
  • Lab Duties: Perform lab duties as needed, such as autoclave, glassware wash, or preparation of common supplies.
  • Policies and Procedures: Plan, develop, organize, and implement policies, procedures, and standards for lab operations.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Manage all lab-related calibration, preventative maintenance, repairs, service contract renewal, and equipment upgrades.
  • Vendor Relationships: Establish relationships with external vendors.
  • Facility Changes: Plan and coordinate large-scale facility changes, including lab reorganizations and/or expansion.
  • Problem-Solving: Anticipate, troubleshoot, and resolve problems associated with work within the laboratory setting, including occasional off-hours responses to laboratory emergencies.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Facilities, Operations, Engineering, and Procurement teams.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in microbiology, molecular biology, environmental biology, or related fields.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of proven experience in lab management.
  • Skills: Self-motivated and self-directed, able to make independent and effective decisions in appropriate situations. Thorough understanding of research methodologies. Familiarity with the operation of standard lab equipment and with lab safety and biosafety procedures. Aptitude for technical problem-solving and budget management. Ability to multi-task and work effectively with a diverse group of people. Creative thinking, and problem-solving skills. Highly organized with attention to detail.
