Join our team at the Rhode Island Blood Center as a Laboratory Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for executing testing and quality control procedures following Standard Operating Procedures, as assigned. This includes routine donor testing in large batches, as well as component qualifications.
As a Laboratory Technician, you will work with the Supervisor of Client Testing to ensure appropriate test menus are completed as ordered. You will also be responsible for proper disposition of components based on test or QC results.
This is a 3x12 hour shift position, working Wednesday to Friday from 7pm to 7am. The proposed hourly wage for this position is $27.66/hour for Laboratory Tech I and $30.80/hour to $31.11/hour for Laboratory Tech II.
Eligible for a $2500 sign-on bonus.
Responsibilities:
- High complexity testing of donor blood samples with proper technique and documentation according to the procedures of the Rhode Island Blood Center.
- Labeling of blood components including proper checking and documentation according to the procedures of the Rhode Island Blood Center Laboratory.
- Performing and documenting quality control procedures on a regular schedule.
- Successful participation in proficiency testing and annual competency assessment programs.
- Recognizing equipment malfunctions and evaluating need for adjustment for repairs.
Qualifications:
- MLT or equivalent ASCP certification required.
- Must meet testing personnel requirements as described in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 for Highly Complex Laboratory.
- Lab Tech I = 2 year MLT degree
- Lab Tech II = 4 year MT degree or equivalent - CLS, MLS, 4 year bio + MLT or BB
