Job Summary

STERIS is seeking a highly skilled Lead Software Test Engineer to join our team in Mentor, OH. As a key member of our Infection Prevention Technology business, you will design, develop, and execute software verification tests for medical devices. Your expertise in software requirements and design specifications will ensure testability, and you will lead test automation efforts and maintain test platforms. Collaborating with project teams, you will schedule and coordinate verification activities, and lead a small team of Software Test Engineers and Test Technicians. You will train and coach in best practices, and work with the manager to develop guidelines, procedures, and work instructions for verification activities.

Responsibilities

* Design, implement, debug, and execute software tests according to corporate policies and business operating procedures on new and sustaining engineering projects.
* Work independently with minimal supervision on routine activities, collaborating on unusual/complex issues and approval on plans and larger-scale designs.
* Participate in test reviews to identify issues and provide recommendations.
* Investigate new test technologies and tools.
* Create software test process documentation, including verification plans, designs, and protocols.
* Perform integration and software system testing and capacity/performance testing of applications.
* Document defects, capturing steps to reproduce and information for debugging.
* Review test plans and designs with development engineers.
* Develop test automation plans, including requirements, architecture, and technologies.
* Identify and procure tools and technologies as appropriate for test designs and execution.
* Implement and maintain test automation framework.
* Oversee validation of software test tools.
* Create automated test procedures using appropriate scripting and tools to support project needs.
* Identify metrics to assess test progress and software quality.

Requirements

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field.
* 7+ years of progressive engineering experience in the validation and verification of embedded software and firmware systems.
* Experience leading a team of test engineers and project leadership highly preferred.
* Experience working in medical device industry or other regulated industry is highly desirable, requiring formalized software test processes and software risk management.
* Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
* Experience in developing and executing unit, integration, and functional software tests.
* Proficient in scripting languages such as Python and Perl preferred.
* Experience in verification and validation using multiple operating systems, including real-time operating systems (RTOS) and traditional operating systems.
* Experience using software integrated development environments (IDEs) and tools, including compiling/building, debugging, configuration management, defect management, continuous integration, and code analysis tools.
* Understanding of usability/human factors and developing and verifying language localization solutions is desired.
* Experience with ALM and test tools is preferred.
