Job Description

The Contra Costa Community College District is seeking a Counselor (NextUp/EOPS Foster Youth) - Tenure Track Position to join our team. As a Counselor, you will play a critical role in supporting the academic and personal success of former and current foster youth students enrolled in the NextUp/EOPS program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct counseling services to eligible NextUp students, including case management, academic planning, and support with basic needs.
  • Build personal connections with students, foster a sense of community, and promote a positive learning environment.
  • Track and report on student progress, program outcomes, and recruitment efforts.
  • Collaborate with external organizations to build connections and secure resources for students.
  • Support all foster youth students in EOPS, including those who may be ineligible for the NextUp program.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling.
  • Experience working with former and/or current foster youth, preferably in a community college setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including students from historically underserved and underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with students, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to student success and equity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing emotional, personal, and/or academic support to former and/or current foster youth with culturally relevant and responsive counseling instruction.
  • Ability to effectively case manage, track, and report on a complex cohort.
  • Ability to successfully plan events and activities, including recruitment, marketing, event planning, and program development tailored to a complex cohort.
  • Ability to apply creativity and innovation to co-curricular student engagement, supporting equitable outcomes.
  • Ability to establish strong connections and supportive working relationships with first-generation and foster youth students.
