Position Overview:
The Public Safety Officer I role is a critical position focused on the safeguarding of individuals and property. Upon successful completion of the required training, individuals will advance to the Public Safety Officer II level, which offers a salary range of $144,724 - $180,310 annually.
This is a Regular Full-Time Employment Opportunity that includes a comprehensive benefits package, including retirement options.
To qualify for this position, candidates must provide a California DMV driver record printout, a copy of the California POST Basic certificate, and a current WSTB.

Out-of-state applicants must provide their state DMV driver record printout, a California driver license, and a California POST Basic Course Waiver at the time of appointment.
Under the supervision of a Public Safety Lieutenant or Captain, the officer will engage in a variety of public safety tasks that include law enforcement, crime prevention, fire suppression, rescue operations, and emergency medical services.
Key Responsibilities:- Complete field training and fire academy to prepare for advancement to Public Safety Officer II.
- Patrol designated areas to maintain law and order, preventing crime and enforcing laws.
- Respond to service calls regarding traffic incidents, robberies, disturbances, and other offenses, taking appropriate action including arrests.
- Conduct investigations into crimes against property and individuals, including evidence collection and suspect apprehension.
- Engage in crime prevention activities and address public safety hazards.
- Provide court testimony related to assigned duties and maintain accurate investigative records.
- Enforce traffic laws and conduct traffic accident investigations.
- Participate in community education and crime prevention initiatives.
Working Conditions:
This position requires physical stamina, including prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking, as well as the ability to lift and carry equipment and individuals weighing up to 165 pounds. Officers must be capable of running distances and climbing obstacles as needed during emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must possess an Associate's degree or equivalent educational units from an accredited institution, along with two years of experience in law enforcement. Successful completion of a POST-approved police academy is also required.
Knowledge and Skills:
Candidates should have a solid understanding of laws, regulations, and procedures relevant to public safety, as well as the ability to apply these principles effectively in various situations.
Special Requirements:
Applicants must meet specific vision and age requirements and maintain a valid California driver's license.
