Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with various stakeholder groups.
  • Plan, develop, and execute content for the University's print magazine, e-publications, monthly alumni emails, and monthly employee newsletter.
  • Curate a list of stories and article placement.
  • Write and edit text for final review.
  • Write, edit, and pitch content for University publications.
  • Pitch faculty experts and their work to specific relevant media outlets and/or journalists.
  • Write media releases and coordinate associated visual assets, as appropriate.
  • Receive, coordinate, and respond to media requests for expert commentary.
  • Maintain the CSW blog by regularly writing original content and coordinating with guest authors.
  • Coordinate nominations of faculty for selected awards/honors/recognition.
  • Develop and maintain web pages featuring content related to the CSW in general, as well as pages overseen by the development and PR teams.
  • Design print and digital promotional materials, including flyers, newsletters, social media posts, and digital signage, as assigned.
  • Develop content and post to social media on the College's official social media channels.
  • Edit video from information sessions, seminars, etc. and upload to the CSW YouTube channel.
  • Provide staff support and represent the College of Social Work during specific University and professional events.
Problem Solving

The incumbent will face challenges such as incorporating the College/University mission into all communications, developing and implementing effective community outreach projects and special events, and disseminating information that will ignite interest or encourage participation.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency

This role will be based in an office environment, requiring nearly continuous sitting, hearing, listening, and talking. Occasionally, the incumbent may be required to walk, use repetitive hand motion, bend, or reach overhead.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communications, English, Liberal Arts, or a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) is required. Experience in desktop publishing, word processing, computer networks, and web page design is preferred. Experience in public relations work or the print news media is also preferred.

Preferences

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Familiarity with Associated Press style and APA style/citations is preferred. Experience with Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, Audition), Emma software, and Omni CMS is also preferred.
